Generally regarded as the biggest and most famous rowing event in the world, the Henley Royal Regatta attracts fans from all over the globe. This event is held annually on the first weekend of July and is raced on the River Thames, by the town of Henley-on-Thames in England. The event dates back to 1839 with the most prestigious event, the Grand Challenge Cup for Men’s Eights, being held every year since then.
The Henley Royal Regatta lasts for 5 days, from Wednesday to Sunday, and includes 20 events made up of over 200 races with various trophies on offer. The races are head-to-head knockout competitions and are competed by teams that come from all over the world. The course, named the Straight Course, is 1 mile, 550 yards (2,112 m) in length.
As the best Regatta out of the four, the Henley Royal Regatta is a key event of the English social season and is regarded as one of the most entertaining sporting events of the summer. It attracts thousands of visitors who have the pleasure of seeing an international standard of Rowing, which is likely to include Olympians and new crews to the event.
