View Profiles of Formula 1 Grand Prix Drivers

  • Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian VettelSebastian Vettel is a German Formula 1 driver for Red Bull who is considered to be one of the best in the world having won the World Championship 4 times in a row in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Vettel is only the third driver in Formula 1 history to have won the World Championship 4 times in a row, though he could not match Michael Schumacher’s feat of winning the championship five consecutive times in 2014. Vettel joined Scuderia Ferrari for the 2015 season and currently partners Kimi Räikkönen.

In just 5 short years Vettel went from being a young beginner in the sport at BMW Sauber to being ranked as the number one Formula 1 driver around the globe. After his career started in 2007, Vettel has been on the podium an impressive 72 times out of 148 Grand Prix’s, winning a total of 40 races and has had the highest grid position 45 times. Vettel became the first defending champion not to win a single race in the next season in 2014, since Jacques Villeneuve in 1998.

  • Fernando Alonso

Fernando AlonsoFernando Alonso is a Spanish Formula 1 driver for McLaren-Honda, after a long spell at Scuderia Ferrari. Alonso raced a brilliant season in 2012 losing out on the World Championship by a mere 3 points to the German Sebastian Vettel. Normally the World Championship is won by the team with the fastest car, and the fact that Alonso’s car was 1.5 seconds slower than Vettel’s car and he only lost by 3 points tells you that he is a fantastic driver.

The Spanish driver has entered a landmark of 243 Grand Prix’s and has been on the podium 97 times. Alonso has had the highest grid position 22 times and a total of 32 victories. He remains the only Spanish driver to win a Formula One Drivers’ Championship, and has the sixth highest number of wins of all time.

  • Lewis Hamilton

Lewis HamiltonLewis Hamilton is an English Formula 1 driver who has recently changed teams from the team he was with for 14 years. Team McLaren signed Hamilton at the age of 14 and cared for him up until the end of the 2012 season where he decided to leave and join team Mercedes. It was a questionable decision by the Englishman as Mercedes had only won one race in 3 years up do that point. Hamilton went to the team with the belief that he could make them successful, which proved true in the end. He ended 2013 in fourth place, before becoming champion again in 2014. He tops the championship so far in 2015, and looks to consolidate his lead and win back-to-back championships.

Hamilton is known to be a nuisance to his team if his car is not competitive enough which evidently paid off as his career with Mercedes developed. Hamilton has started 157 Grand Prix’s, getting on the podium 79 times whilst winning 38 races and achieving pole position 46 times.

  • Kimi Räikkönen

Kimi Räikkönen Kimi Räikkönen is a Formula 1 driver from Finland who is now racing with Scuderia Ferrari after having a 2 year break from the sport, followed by a spell at Lotus. Kimi Räikkönen has recently returned from a 2 year break from Formula 1 when he was racing as a rally car driver but his return has been successful so far. Räikkönen had a successful 2012 season which was only missing the final bit of pace his used to have back when he was racing at McLaren. Nevertheless, he was very consistent and his consistency was only matched by Fernando Alonso, and the Finnish racer ended his season as 3rd best.

Räikkönen’s career at Scuderia Ferrari did not start well at all, finishing the 2014 season at a career-low of 12th, not finishing on the podium once, the first time he did so since his rookie season. 2015 has so far been more successful – as of 13th July 2015 he is ranked 5th in the Drivers’ Championship. Räikkönen has entered a total of 222 Grand Prix’s, winning 20 races, getting on the podium 78 times and gaining the highest grid position on 16 different occasions.

  • Mark Webber

Mark WebberMark Webber is an Australian driver who left the sport at the conclusion of the 2013 season. Red Bull, who Webber drove with for much of his career, finished as the best team in the 2012 season. Webber struggled to keep up with the pace in 2011 season but bounced back in 2012 finishing 6th in the overall table after having a disastrous second half of the season due to technical difficulties with his car.

Mark Webber was still racing well right up to the end of his Formula One career, in the 2013 season finishing 3rd, jumping up two positions in his final race. Webber raced a total of 217 Grand Prix’s whilst getting a podium finish 42 times,  finishing 1st in 9 races and having the highest grid position 13 times.
